The ID Case Files
Choose-your-own-adventure scenarios for instructional designers. Each case presents a realistic dilemma with two plausible paths, then a theory-backed debrief on the consequences of each choice.

Design Thinking for Learning Design
A graduate course teaching design thinking as a method for learning design, built for a master's program in instructional design. Full course map, storyboards, and learning resources, paired with a companion text we wrote for the course.
Project Management for Learning Design
A graduate course on running learning-design projects, from scoping and timelines to stakeholders and iteration. Designed end to end for a master's program in instructional design, with an authored companion text.
Advanced Python Course
An undergraduate advanced Python course themed around a deep-sea research expedition. Learners master metaclasses, decorators, design patterns, concurrency, and APIs by building a working simulation, with a playable Python capstone at the end. Built in Articulate Rise.
E-Learning & Interactives
Utility Vegetation Inspection
A scenario-based field exercise where inspectors examine a powerline span, flag tree and equipment hazards, and get instant feedback marker by marker. Built from scratch as a custom interactive web app with Claude, deployable as SCORM. This is one scenario from a three-part course.
Chat-based microlearning
Bite-sized conversational training delivered as a chat. Learners work through a realistic scenario message by message, with branching choices and voice playback. Built on Chat Train, our own platform.
Moment of Truth Scenarios
A set of branching customer-service scenarios built in Articulate Storyline. Learners handle real service moments, from a double-booked guest to a damaged delivery, and watch how each choice plays out. Built for a university hospitality program.
Serious Games
Let Grow Plant ID Card Game
Designed for vegetation management crews, this game promotes identification of common compatible, incompatible, toxic, invasive, and aggressive plant species.
Bank On It
Bet on your own knowledge and earn money for correct answers. Bank On It tests both a learner's knowledge AND their confidence, rewarding certainty paired with a correct answer.
Food Fall
Use your browser's microphone to practice speaking Chinese words. Study the words, then test your memory and pronunciation by playing the game. Clear the words before the food piles to the top.
Training Sites & Web Design
Water Crossing & Stream Restoration
A Moodle certification course for Washington State DOT (WSDOT), built through the CITE program, training engineers and field staff on water crossing and stream restoration design and documentation. Designed the course structure, module flow, navigation, and visual presentation for a roughly 10 to 12 hour self-paced build.
Grow with Trees
A LearnWorlds learning platform for Integrated Vegetation Management, training utility and agency crews to reduce nature-based risk and steward the land they manage.
CivicWorks Academy
A continuing-education platform delivering PDH-compliant, real-world courses for engineers, planners, and public-works professionals. Built on LearnWorlds.
Workshops & Faculty Development
Active Discussion Techniques
Active discussion techniques to increase classroom engagement. Participants evaluate and select techniques, adapt them to fit their objectives, and share approaches to address opportunities.
Writing Effective Test Questions
Teaches participants to define, select, and write effective test questions, including how multiple-choice items can test higher-order thinking and how to align questions with objectives.
From Mayhem to Mute
Explores the role of cell phones in students' lives and the challenges and opportunities they present, including policy questions, strategies for leveraging phones for learning, and ways to mitigate distractions.
Webinars & Talks
Can Traditional Authoring Tools Survive AI?
A conversation on the Upside Learning podcast (S3 EP3) about where AI leaves the legacy authoring tools, and what changes for instructional designers when the tooling shifts under them.
The Hidden Cost of e-Learning
An isEazy webinar with Stephen Weaver on the costs of e-learning that don't show up on the invoice: maintenance, rework, and the price of building the wrong thing well.
